## Outdated Power Systems

### 1. **Fire Hazard Reduction**

Old electrical panels, especially those from the mid-20th century (like Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or fuse-based systems), are notorious for failing to trip during overloads, leading to **electrical fires**. Modern panels have updated safety mechanisms to prevent this.

### 2. **Code Compliance**

Outdated panels often don’t meet current **electrical codes**, which means they might be illegal, especially if you're selling your home. Upgrading ensures compliance with local building regulations.

### 3. **Capacity for Modern Power Needs**

Old panels weren't designed for today’s electrical loads—think EV chargers, home offices, AC units, etc. An upgrade gives you the **amperage capacity** needed for current and future technology.

### 4. **Insurance Issues**

Many insurers will **deny coverage** or **increase premiums** if your panel is outdated or on a known risk list. Replacing it can improve insurability and even reduce premiums.

### 5. **Reliability and Convenience**

Frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or limited circuit space are signs of a struggling system. A new panel eliminates these issues and allows for **additional circuits** when expanding your home.

Two of the most common unsafe electrical panels still in homes today:

- Zinsco, also know as GTE Sylvania and Challenger.[Click here](https://www.qe209.com/zinsco?hsLang=en) for more info on Zinsco electrical panels.
- Federal Pacific Electric. [Click here](https://www.qe209.com/federal-pacific?hsLang=en) for more info on Federal Pacific Electric panels.
